About this tool
The diagnostic logic in this tool is grounded in primary horticultural sources: UC Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program (UC IPM), Missouri Botanical Garden, NC State Extension Plant Toolbox, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Penn State Extension, and the University of Maryland Home & Garden Information Center. Every diagnosis maps to one of our existing problem guides, where each guide cites the underlying source.
This tool is for non-emergency triage. If a plant is suddenly collapsing or you suspect a serious disease (verticillium wilt, fire blight, oak wilt), the best next step is a soil or tissue sample submitted to your state plant disease diagnostic lab. Most state agricultural universities run free or low-cost diagnostic services for residents.
