Cookie policy
What cookies and similar technologies we use, and how to turn them off. Last updated June 15, 2026.
What cookies are
Cookies are tiny text files a website stores in your browser so it can recognize you on a return visit. Some are essential (so a form remembers what you typed). Others are analytical (so we can see which articles people read most). We use both, and we ask for your consent before turning on analytical cookies.
Cookies we set
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
opc_consent |
Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we don't ask again on every page. | 12 months | Essential |
_ga, _ga_QJNTLYJ2L4, _gid |
Google Analytics 4 — anonymized page views, session duration, traffic source. We use Consent Mode v2: if you decline analytics, these cookies are NOT set and only aggregated, non-cookie pings are sent. | Up to 2 years (_ga), 24 hours (_gid) | Analytics (opt-in) |
What we do NOT use
No advertising cookies. No third-party retargeting pixels (no Meta Pixel, no TikTok pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no Google Ads remarketing). No fingerprinting. No social tracking embeds. No A/B testing cookies. No CRM or marketing automation pixels.
Consent Mode v2
We use Google Consent Mode v2. Before you make a choice on the cookie banner, all analytics signals are sent in "denied" state — no cookies are set, and only anonymized, aggregated pings are recorded by Google. After you click Accept, Google Analytics begins setting its standard cookies. After you click Decline, no analytics cookies are set, and we record only enough to count one page view without identifying you.
How to change your choice
Cleared cookies or want to switch from accept to decline (or vice versa)?
- Reset on this site: open your browser settings, delete cookies for outdoorplantcare.com, and the banner will appear again on your next visit.
- Browser-wide: most browsers let you disable third-party cookies entirely, or block cookies from specific domains. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge each have a settings page for this.
- Do Not Track: we honor the GPC (Global Privacy Control) signal — if your browser sends it, we treat that as a decline by default.
Local storage and similar
The site uses your browser's localStorage to remember a small handful of UI preferences, like whether you have opened the cookie banner before, and to cache the search index for faster searches. These are not cookies and are not transmitted to any server. You can clear them in your browser's developer tools.
Children
This site is intended for adults and gardeners of any age, but we do not knowingly collect cookies or analytics from anyone under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has interacted with the site, email thomas@outdoorplantcare.com and we will remove anything we can identify.
